2005 Bordeaux Continues to Shine

We keep trying more of our stash of 2005 Bordeaux, and across the board these wines are showing extremely well right now.  Here’s another one to look for, and it is still affordable.  This really was a great vintage.

2005 Cap de FaugeresWine:    2005 Cap de Faugeres

Winery Location:   Cotes de Castillon, Bordeaux

Tasted By:    Neil & Cheri            Date:    August 2015

Tasting Notes:  this is very dark and opaque to the rim.  A big nose of black fruits hits you along with a very clear and amazing aroma of new shoe leather.  Really.  There’s also some spice there.  When it hits your palate it is big and full bodied.  Currant, plum, savory and herbal notes all join the leather.  It’s quite a complex profile, and just a luxurious glass of wine.  Add in a very long finish and it is really top notch.  An excellent bottle of Bordeaux to be sure.

Price Point –    when we got it years ago it was under $20.  The surprise is it is still available for around $25 – $35 on wine-searcher.  This is a steal at that price.  The score wine-searcher has listed is 85, and that is crazy low.  This is easily into the 90s.

Would We Buy It?    without question if we didn’t already have some.  Even still I’m thinking about getting more.  This is worth buying and I would definitely drink it now.  Hard to imagine it getting much better.  You don’t have to spend a small fortune to get a good bottle of Bordeaux.

Sometimes proclaimed “great” vintages live up to the hype.  2005 Bordeaux is clearly shaping up to be one that does.  More bottles to come!

A votre sante!
