It’s Beaujolais Nouveau Day! Here are Two from Georges Duboeuf.

Beaujolais Nouveau Day happens every year on the third Thursday of November.  That’s when the new Beaujolais Nouveau wines are released and the world rejoices.  At least the part that likes Beaujolais does.

Typically these wines were known as young, fresh, fruity and meant to be drunk right now.  Depth and complexity are not words you would normally hear associated with this event and its wines.  That has really changed over the last 6-8 years, as the wines are a bit bigger, more fleshy, have some body and depth of fruit.  It is noticeable, and very welcome from our point of view.  You could say the same about the upper crust of Beaujolais, the Cru wines.  They too are bigger and more complex.   Maybe this is the clearest signal of climate change yet, the richness of the Beaujolais Nouveau.  Makes sense to me.

Here we have two new releases from Georges Duboeuf, who essentially created this whole thing anyway and is basically synonymous with Beaujolais.

2020 NouveauWine:  2020 Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau

Winery Location:   Beaujolais, France

Tasted By:    Neil & Cheri            Date:  November 2020

Tasting Notes:  This is more ruby in color than garnet, with purple flashes.  It is also quite dark, but still brilliant.  On the nose you get cherry, more of a bing cherry, and some caramel.  This is loaded with fruit.  The palate brings waves of fresh fruit, also some caramel, and a touch of Jolly Rancher cherry.  It is fresh, as you would expect.  The fruit persists through a surprisingly long finish.  Very good wine, and recommended.  You can serve this either chilled or at room temp.  It works either way.

Price Point –    $13.49

Would We Buy It?   Yes, this is quite good and certainly worth the SRP.  It would make an excellent Thanksgiving wine as well.

And now, the Rosé!

2020 Nouveau RoseWine:  2020 Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Rosé Nouveau

Winery Location:   Beaujolais, France

Tasted By:    Neil & Cheri            Date:  November 2020

Tasting Notes:  This wine is a brilliant, orangey pink.  It’s almost electric in color, and quite striking.  The nose is strawberry, and so is the palate, joined with some citrus.  This is very fresh.  Serve chilled

Price Point –    $13.49

Would We Buy It? –   Yes, this is refreshing and delicious.

Beaujolais Nouveau day is fun.  Good wine is fun.  Basically these two are all about fun, although the red could certainly masquerade as something a bit more serious.

A votre santé!
