Value Portuguese Red Blend from the Douro

The wines of Portugal represent some of hte best values on the planet.  They’ve received a lot of press over the past 10 years or so, and are not the real sleepers they used to be.  But still, values abound, from the Alentejo region in the south to the great estates along the Douro river, and everwhere in between.  It’s a county every wine lover should explore.  Here’s a good value red blend from the Douro region.

Wine:    2022 Pacheca Superior

Winery Location:   Douro Valley, Portugal

Tasted By:    Neil & Cheri             Date:    May 2025

Tasting Notes:  This is a blend of  Touriga Francesa, Touriga National, Tinto Roriz, Tinta Barroca and Sousão. The color is a medium dark red.  Red berries on the nose are joined by red licorice and tobacco.  It has medium+ body in the mouth with medium+ tannins.  The fruit is at the core.  Still young, this wine will soften with some botle time but it is very approachable right now.  Good length finishes it off.  Very nice.

Price Point –    $18

Would We Buy It?    Yes, this is a quality red wine, and an ageworthy one as well for short money.

Very good wine from an iconic region.  All for under $20.  How can you go wrong?

A votre santé!
