Simply Gorgeous, Value Petite Sirah from South Africa

Petite Sirah is a favorite of ours.  Many versions are deep and brooding, almost black in color and filled with black plum flavors.  The best keep a freshness to them, while still presenting a big, rich wine.  It is not a widely planted grape, with California being the main area cultivating it.  This wine is not from California, but it is pretty amazing and a great value.  Let’s take a look.

Wine:    2022  Wildeberg “Wandering Beeste” Petite Sirah

Winery Location:   Franschhoek, South Africa

Tasted By:  Neil & Cheri               Date:  April 2025

Tasting Notes:  this wine is a deep red in color, not as dark as most U.S. Petite Sirah.  There are rich berries on the nose that take over.  The palate is also full of ripe blackberry and currant, with medium tannins.  It is a rich experience, but beautifully balanced and fresh.  It finishes very long.  This is pretty excellent wine,

Price Point –   $24

Would We Buy It?    We did, and likely will buy more.  This is absolutely a stunner and a steal at $24.  Beautiful wine.

We’ll put this one into the high value category.  It’s pretty special, especially for the money.  If you like rich, fruit driven wines with balance and freshness, then buy this.

A votre santé!
