Dining Review of Kindred Fare in the Finger Lakes Region

Duck, Farro, Swiss Chard and Cherry

Kindred-Fare-Logo-White-Horizontal2Situated in a plaza on Hamilton Street in Geneva, NY,  Kindred Fare is bright, sleek and elegant inside. The bar dominates the interior as you walk in, which I love, with a 12 foot high backdrop of spirits. An open kitchen includes some bar style seating, and you can get very close to the action. There is another area off to one side which looks ready for a private party. The main bar itself is open and inviting, situated in the middle of the dining room.  Kindred Fare has an eclectic menu, featuring local products and a farm to table approach.  On Mondays they have a $35 prix fixe menu and no corkage fees!  On other days corkage fees are $15 for Finger Lakes Wine, and $20 for all others.

The inviting bar

I sat at the bar and ordered the burger and fries, basic to be sure but always a good yardstick of a restaurant and chef.  The burger was juicy, with cheese, pickles, roasted garlic and a mustard aioli which worked great. This was a good burger.  The person sitting next to me got the house pasta, which looked, and smelled, fabulous.

Having enjoyed Kindred Fare the first time, the next night I returned with colleagues, and had the duck with farro, wilted swiss chard and a cherry gastrique.  This was really tasty, and the farro and cherry mix worked perfectly with the medium well duck breast.  I told myself I was not going to eat all the farro, no matter how good it was.  I lied.

Kindred Fare has a rather extensive and also eclectic wine list.  I sampled the 2017 Ground Effects Cab, from Santa Ynez. Vibrant, purplish red in color, it had red currant and cherry twizzler aromas, medium body, a nice core of fruit and great balance.  Good length as well. It was 14.5% in alcohol, but doesn’t come across as that big.  A very nice wine.IMG_2713

My wallet is definitely out for Kindred Fare when I am in the Seneca Lake region.  The food was excellent, the atmosphere was inviting, and they have a great wine list and bar selection.  Here are the details:
