A 2015 Bordeaux Beauty Still Going Strong

2015 was a great vintage in Bordeaux, and great Bordeaux vintages are one of our favorite things.  Not because we open the vault and buy the acclaimed wines of the vintage, garnering perfect or almost perfect scores and impressive price tags, but rather because the lower tiers of the quality scale make such good, value driven wine.  You can buy a staggering bottle of Bordeaux for $20-$40 in a great year, and a really good one for $15. We tend to buy a lot when this happens, because the other wonderful thing about these wines is that they are going to last.  Here is a great example.

Chateua Tour Saint Christophe 2015 - Sep 2022Wine:  2015 Chateau Tour Saint Christophe Grand Cru

Winery Location:   Saint Émilion,  Right Bank,  Bordeaux

Tasted By:  Neil & Cheri                   Date:  September, 2022

Tasting Notes:  The color is an inky, purple red.  There is no amber at the edges or any sign of fading whatsoever.  The nose is huge, featuring currant, blackberry, tobacco and herbs.  When it hits your palate you are struck by the depth.  It is a mouth coating, opulent wine.  Full bodied, the ripe black berry fruit holds sway and a nice streak of mint provides freshness.  Tannins are brisk, and build a little through the experience.   This is full throttle, and showing no signs of peaking anytime soon.  Still available for under $40, we might have to get some more.

Price Point –    $40

Would We Buy It?    Oh yes.  If you like full throttle Bordeaux then here you are.  I am tempted to pick up a few magnums for long term cellaring, while we drink the other bottles in the cellar.

Great Vintages = Great Value in Bordeaux.  Buy a bottle of this and see what we’re talking about.

A votre santé!
