Juicy Red from Santa Barbara

Below we review a red blend made with grapes from Santa Barbara County.  Here the fog rolls in from the ocean and blankets the grapes, keeping temperatures cooler and allowing the grapes to hold their acidity.  The name of the wine says it all.  Let’s see what we think of the Fog Theory.

Fog Theory 2019 Red BlendWine:   2019 Fog Theory Red Blend

Winery Location:   Santa Barbara County Grapes

Tasted By:  Neil & Cheri                        Date:  November 2021

Tasting Notes: the wine is a dark, reddish purple.  The nose is pretty effusive and full of rich berry fruit as well as a plummy/pruny note.  Some menthol creeps in, along with caramel, oak and herbs.  This is actually pretty complex.  Medium+ bodied on the palate, it is rich and stays that way throughout.  At the same time there is a nice acid balance and freshness.  This really is a good red wine.  We grabbed some on a ridiculous sale price.

Price Point –    Normally about $16.  We got a twofer at that price, which is pretty insane.  It’s worth anything under $20.

Would We Buy It?    Absolutely.  This is really quite good and pretty extreme value if you can find it on sale.  It’s still a solid value at normal price points.

A votre santé!
