Recommended Lodging in Napa Valley – Rancho Caymus Inn

Our Napa home base on the recent trip to the Sonoma and Napa Valleys was chosen for a few reasons.  First was location, as it was conveniently placed in Rutherford, close to many wineries and restaurants.  It was also more central in the valley, which supported our winery visits as we would be bouncing between Calistoga and Oakville.  So we split the difference to a degree.  Lastly, the pictures on the website looked great.  While that may sound trivial, marketing does make a difference.  We can happily report that the pictures on the website for the Rancho Caymus Inn are very representative of the inn itself, and the rooms and other areas are indeed beautiful.

We stayed in a deluxe king, with a large living area including a gas fireplace.  The weather was cold and rainy for much of our stay in Napa, so the fireplace was well used.  A king bed was comfortable and located in an area a step up from the living room.  The bathroom was large and modern, with an amazing shower.  Everything here is top notch and well done.

There is also a large outdoor fireplace and lounge space in the common areas, which we took advantage of after checking in and before the rains arrived.  While overall the inn is fairly compact, with rooms arranged in a square surrounding an interior courtyard, it feels bigger.  In the interior are a pool and hot tub, which were not used during our stay due to the weather, but certainly looked inviting on warmer days.

Rooms come with a made to order hot breakfast that is much appreciated before a day of wine tastings begins.  Speaking of wine tastings, the inn has arrangements with many area producers, so you can go through their concierge to set up tastings and visits.  Some of these are at significant discounts.  Beaulieu Vineyards is right next door, and the Elizabeth Spencer Winery tasting room is across the street.  There is also a great restaurant, the Rutherford Grill, right on the corner next to the inn.

We’ll be staying at Rancho Caymus when we next visit the Napa Valley.  While leaving, I overheard other couples remarking about how much they enjoyed their stays.  It is a perfect home base for some time in Napa.
